In the heart of Paris, in the 12th century, one of the greatest love stories in French literature began: that of Héloïse and Abélard.

Pierre Abélard, a renowned philosopher and teacher at Notre Dame Cathedral, was entrusted with the education of Héloïse d’Argenteuil, a young woman celebrated for her intelligence and independent spirit. Admiration soon turned into a profound love. They lived their relationship in secret in a private residence on the Quai aux Fleurs, on the Île de la Cité.

When their love was discovered, they fled to Brittany, where their son, Astrolabe, was born. Secretly married, they were soon separated forever. Abélard entered a monastery, while Héloïse devoted her life to an abbey.

Yet their separation never brought their story to an end. Throughout their lives, they exchanged letters of remarkable depth, reflecting on love, desire, devotion and freedom. Nine centuries later, their correspondence remains one of the masterpieces of French literature, while their tomb at Père Lachaise Cemetery continues to stand as a universal symbol of enduring love.

Named Héloïse in tribute to these legendary lovers, Héloïse Schapiro founded Héloïse & Abélard in 2019 after more than a decade with the great jewellery Houses of Place Vendôme.

Recycled, traceable and certified gold

Every creation is crafted in recycled 18 carat gold, certified Chain of Custody (CoC), ensuring full traceability throughout every stage of production.

Rather than encouraging new mining, we choose to give existing gold a new life while upholding the highest standards of fine jewellery craftsmanship.

Pre owned natural diamonds

We work exclusively with natural diamonds already in circulation.

We carefully source vintage jewellery, primarily through auctions in France, selecting pieces for the exceptional quality of their gemstones. In our Parisian workshop, each setting is dismantled so the diamonds can be recovered, then individually sorted and assessed by our gemologist.

Only diamonds meeting our exacting standards are selected: G–H colour, VS–SI clarity and excellent cut.

Our sourcing is transparent, local and circular. By giving existing diamonds a new life, we preserve natural resources while revealing their beauty through contemporary creations.

In 2025, Héloïse & Abélard was awarded the CSR Prize for Watchmaking, Jewellery and Tableware by Francéclat, recognising the consistency of the Maison’s sustainability strategy since its founding in 2019.

Our creations never follow perfect geometry. They seek a freer, more vibrant balance.

At Héloïse & Abélard, diamonds respond to each other, converse, and meet in asymmetrical compositions where each stone naturally finds its place. Round, pear, baguette, or oval cuts are skillfully mixed to create movement, rhythm, and delicate tension.

Our signature is one of controlled disorder. A confident asymmetry. A lightness that makes the jewelry seem to float on the skin.

We compose with instinct rather than rigidity. Each creation seeks obviousness rather than perfection, emotion rather than symmetry. The stones seem to have always been destined to meet.

A century-old workshop, 140 years of expertise

All our creations are manufactured in Paris, in our partner workshop located in the heart of the Marais district.

Run by its sixth generation, this workshop is recognized as a member of the Centenary Family Businesses and has perpetuated French jewelry savoir-faire for over 140 years. It is among the last independent Parisian workshops that also work for the major Maisons of Place Vendôme.

Each piece of jewelry is made using traditional high jewelry techniques. Casting, shaping, setting, polishing or engraving: up to nine specialized artisan jewelers work successively on a single creation.

Our workshop is certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), an international benchmark for traceability, ethics, and best practices in the jewelry industry.

Made to order

At Héloïse & Abélard, each piece of jewelry is made to order.

This choice allows us to avoid overproduction and the accumulation of dormant stock, in line with our circular jewelry approach. We only produce what is intended to be worn.

This individual production also offers great freedom of personalization: gold color, size, or engraving, each creation is made especially for its future owner.

We create our jewelry within an average timeframe of four to six weeks.
