Culture Jo Ep #8: Precious Stones

Gemstones are rare... and adored for their exceptional beauty and hardness.

They are not yet part of our collection, but we love working with them for custom projects. 😉

👉🏼 The official designation of "precious stone" applies to 4 gems: diamond, sapphire, ruby, and emerald.

To earn this designation, gems must be natural, and possess a certain hardness and beauty.

✨ Of course... the diamond!

Its hardness is exceptional... perfect for jewelry that lasts over time. An eternal material symbolizing love and commitment for centuries.

The diamond is the most luminous and brilliant stone there is: depending on the chosen cut, it can reflect almost all the light it receives: it sparkles and we love that!

We mainly know it as white, but surprise: diamonds exist in all natural colors. Black, canary yellow, pink, green, blue... all the colors of the rainbow.

The rarest and therefore most expensive are pink, green, and blue diamonds.

The Emerald

Famous for its distinctive green color, it is generally considered the second most precious stone.

Its particularities make its formation more difficult, making it very rare and one of the most expensive.

Colombia is the largest world producer (60% of global production) and produces the highest quality stones with very pure gems.

The Sapphire

From the corundum family, sapphire is recognizable by its brilliant blue... although it can be colorless or any other color, except red which is reserved for rubies.

Pink, green, yellow, purple, and other colored sapphires exist, but the pink-orange hue called "Padparadscha" is the rarest and most sought after.

Blue sapphire deposits are found in many countries such as the United States, Canada, and humid tropical areas like Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and Burma.

The Ruby

The ruby is a brilliant red color.

Today, it is very rare to find beautiful natural and untreated rubies, which makes it one of the most precious and sought-after stones in jewelry!

The main ruby deposits are found in Burma (90% of global production), as well as in Sri Lanka and Madagascar.

All natural rubies have inclusions; only synthetic rubies can give the impression of being perfect. The rarer and smaller these inclusions, the more valuable the stone.

See you next week!
